So, you have a new website that has all the bells and whistles, now what. Now’s the time to set up your website, so that Google and other search engines can find you, after all there is no point having a website if it can’t be seen. This is where search engine optimisation comes in or SEO for short. I know what you’re thinking, this sounds a bit daunting, but it’s not. All you must do is think like your customers, clients or anybody else that’s looking for your services. When we build websites for our clients, the first thing we ask is how would you search for your business.

Keywords

When writing copy for your website it’s well worth thinking about the keywords you are going to add. Choosing the right keywords is vitally important for your website to get noticed. When choosing keywords for your website, we strongly suggest finding long-tail keywords. Long-tail keywords give a better description of your product or services that you offer. A good example would be, if you had a business selling say wedding supplies. Long-tail keywords would be something like – wedding stationery supplies, wedding and bridesmaid dresses for hire and wedding bouquet supplies. As you can see, long-tail keywords are more precise, compared to just targeting wedding or wedding supplies. Long-tail keywords do get less search traffic, but they do get a better conversion rate.

Finding keywords

There are a lot of options for you to find keywords when optimising your website for search engines. One way is using google. If you type your chosen keyword into google, it will drop down with other keyword search options. Also, if you scroll to the bottom of the page, it gives you other popular search options.
You can also use several online resources like Ubersuggest and Google’s very own keyword planner in AdWords. If you build your website with WordPress, then we strongly recommend a plug-in called Yoast. Yoast is a free plugin that helps you optimise every page you build.
